We just finished our home made maple cream machine and made our first batch! Why pay $3000 for the same machine when we can build our own for ~$1000 and a couple hours of work? We’re working on our recipe this month so that we can make the longest lasting cream possible (cream likes to separate like natural peanut butter). We’re also working on our own custom containers. Stay tuned!

Very interested in your cream machine. Is it possible to get more info on how you made it. I’m a large hobby producer and like you can’t afford to buy but can build. Thank you for your time, Steve.

Liked you post on the maple cream machine thanks do you think the worm gear on a meat grinder would pump the taffy?

I don’t think it would work, these gear pumps are pretty high precision pieces that generate some suction/pressure, I once tried a meat grinder to break some chunks of sugar up and it ended up being a failure.

Hi, nice set up. Simple but clean! I like it.
I was wondering how the brass gear pump was holding up ? How do you clean it after us? My concern is that left over maple particules would get hard and possibly damage the gears in the pump. This making it important to have a stainless pump.
What is the diameter of the entry and exit of your pump?
Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.
    Kind regards

I actually sold the setup, but it worked great for me. Cleaning is a MUST, you’re right, crystalized sugar can damage it. I now know how to disassemble/reassemble these pumps with my eyes closed due to several rebuilds and learning experiences involving various sources of sugar crystals. I used a 1″ on that one, my new machines is 1″ (accidentally mixup) but has a 10:1 motor reducer and is 2.5x as fast as the one I built with a 25:1 reducer. Good Luck!
